Flipping through an old notebook I found a line I had written: build an app (paid) → merge the little tools people use every day, with two words added underneath: no ads.
“Free plus ads” is almost the default these days, but it slowly turns the product into an attention business: more features, deeper menus, and the one thing that matters gets pushed off screen by a banner. Paid plus ad-free is a different contract — the user pays once, and the product only has to work.
The real question is what counts as “used every day”. Probably not a long feature list, but the three or four things you open without thinking. Making those effortless may matter more than shipping a hundred features.
Life needs less overthinking. Do more. Feel more.
